Hi,

Just have a quick query. Im flying from shannon, ireland to logan airport next week. As the immigration duties are done in shannon do i hand in my brown evelope to them or do i hand it to customs when i arrive in logan. The reason why i ask is i heard from someone else that he gave the evelope to customs when he arrived in the states.

No, you'll go through Immigration at Shannon and Customs at Logan. You should turn in your brown envelope at Shannon. :)

Safe travels!

Hi

Immigration at Shannon will take you 5-10 mins max. The guy I got was real friendly also. I had my x-ray with me too, but he didn't need to see it...but have it on hand just in case ;) He gave me a temp written work authorization, but they didn't recognise it here in Columbus :(

I presume they forward the brown envelope on, but make sure you have a copy of the Vaccination Worksheet. If you didn't get one off the civil surgeon, give him a call and ask for a copy of it. You'll need this for the AOS and getting your Vaccination Supplemental form.

Good Luck and have a safe flight!!

Meauxna: It was a written "Authorized to Work" on my I-94 and I made an infopass appointment with an immigration officer at the Leveque Tower in Columbus. She basically told me it wasn't worth the paper it was written on (in a nice way) and that I would have to wait until after I was married to apply for the real thing.

Galwayman: Ring the civil surgeon and ask him to fax a copy of your Vaccination Worksheet to a convenient fax number...a shop nearby, your fiance's family in the U.S. Or call him when you're in the U.S and get it faxed to Kinko's or somewhere like that. Also ask him to post you a copy - either to your family's address in Ireland (and they send on to you) or to your new address in the U.S.

If you don't have this, you may have to get those shots all over again.

Galwayman, generally customs and immigration are cleared together--both for "regular" clearing (passengers coming from countries other than Canada, Ireland and some Caribbean) and for passengers passing through Canadian airport PFI's. This oft leads to a confusion between customs and immigration.

Passengers coming from Dublin or Shannon clear IMMIGRATION--but not customs--at the PFI's there. So, you need to hand the brown envelope at Shannon, but you'll clear customs in US.
