In a rare occurrence, boys inherited different genetic codes from mother

Twins Layton (right) and Kaydon Richardson (left) from Middlesbrough, are officially one in a million after one was born black and the other one white.

LONDON - A pair of British twin boys has been born with different skin color, a rare genetic occurrence according to experts.

In an interview with Britain's Sky News program, mother Kerry Richardson said that the boys were both born white but as they've gotten older one of the boys got darker and the other lighter.

Today, she says, the twins attract attention wherever they go.

Richardson is of mixed race, with Nigerian and English heritage, while the father is white.

A genetics expert at Oxford University says such births are rare, as the genes that cause skin color normally mix together. In this case, he says, it appears the genes for skin color didn't combine for some reason and the boys may have inherited different genetic codes from their mother.

I don't know which show I saw it on, I think it was Oprah but a while back there were these twin teenage girls who had a Caucasian mother and a African American Father and one of the girls was like their mom with pale white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes while the other one had dark curly hair, dark skin, and brown eyes. I was so amazed because they didn't look like they were even sisters.

Usually the woman in a case like this just cheated on the unsuspecting husband..simple as that. Theres no way one couple can have multi-racial kids, unless the kids are white due to being albinos.

This is the reason no woman should have three-somes with 2 men.

You gotta start to read the stuff you respond to. Or simply try to comprehend it:
Richardson [that's the mother] is of mixed race, with Nigerian and English heritage, while the father is white.

Folk in Nigeria are typically black. In case you didn't know.

My African wife and I just had a baby. She's fairly light skinned thus far. Somewhat darker than me but certainly lighter than her mom. She does, however, carry her mother's African genes. As she does my caucasian genes. So, her kids down the road can be either white or dark or mixed if she would have them with either a white or black or mixed father. Nothing unusual or suspicous about it.

WOW for once I am in total agreement with ET-US2004 (and i just got home from a shift at Walmart  ) I dont find anything "odd" in this and would assume as mixed marriages increase then this statistical oddity will increase proportionally.

What I do find shocking are some of the wholly amazing and ridiculous comments here and wonder what is being taucght in biology/genetics 101 in schools these days.

What kind of an orgy was that? :P

 Well I'm cherokee but not full-blooded... so there is the cherokee and white... their dad's mom was vietnamese and his dad was a black american soldier in the war.... there are the other two races... people tell me all the time how beautiful my kids are and comment that if that's what happens when we blend the races then they're all for it :D

I was actually reading something (on VJ?) the other day about how in a hundred or a thousand years or something there will just be one major race/skin tone because this "blending" has become such common practice.

Really. Don't they teach basic stuff like the difference between fraternal and identical twins? I thought cell-splitting was Biology 101 - like the first week even.

My ex husband is a fraternal twin. He had dark hair and blue eyes and is much shorter than his blonde blue eyed brother was. They vaguely looked like brothers - very vaguely.

They have two younger brothers (not twins) with red hair. Everybody thinks the red heads are the twins because they look more alike than my ex and his brother did (his twin died about 15 years ago).

There's a family we know where the father is black (very very dark) and the mother is white. They have three kids. Each one is lighter than their older sibling.

Wow! Part of me doesn't believe it, while the other part does. I don't know what to say, but it's and I think it would suck. Try explaining that one. LOL!
