How we can interpret case number ?

for ex: XYZ1133345555

Also, if anybody have any idea how the cases get forwarded to service centers, on what basis?

For ex: MSC or CSC or any other

Is this based on your location?

How NBC is different from others?

All AOS packages goes to NBC. They do all the checks and and request for evidence if needed. From there, they forward I-485 to local offices for interviews and to CSC for those adjusting from K-1 visas. Cases sent to CSC doesn't require an interview ( majority of the time) but the wait can be very long. NBC also process EAD and AP applications.

Also NBC ( National Benefit Center) is the same as MSC (Missouri Service Center). There is also TSC, VSC and CSC for Texas, Vermont and California

If somebody from California for instance, that means her case will forwarded to CSC after initial screening at MSC/NBC?

no. what status are you adjusting from? If not K1, your case will be transfer to your local office for interview, not to service center.

I am AOS'ing from H1B.

I understand that interview will be at my local office.

But how initial processing, that won't be done at any of the service centers?

Initial processing is done at the NBC (aka MSC) before being handed off to your local office to arrange an interview and make the final adjudication.

the first 3 letters indicate where your case being process at. Which for you is MSC.

I don't think numbers matter.

I read somewhere that it indicates year & date and case number in that year...
