Hi there everyone, thank you for having such a wonderful place to come to for answers to come of life's most elusive questions :)

I have read through quite a bit of info regarding the fiance visa, and have decided to post a new topic due to my slightly different situation.

So here it is:

I am American and my girlfriend is Canadian. We have only been together 2 years and haven't given much thought to marriage/visas until now. We are expecting a baby sometime this winter, and are planning on having it in Guatemala, due to the fact that I own property there and spend a lot of time there in the winter. We are currently in the US, and will be leaving by mid November.

Neither one of us want to become permanent residents of each others' countries due to the traveling...so the difficulty for us is to find some way to more or less guarantee entry into both the US and Canada in order to visit with family and the baby as time goes on.

Basically I am wondering if there is something simple that we can do just to allow ease of travel.

Will having a child that is a citizen of both countries be enough initially?

Will being married help? If so, what country is advisable to be married in?

Will we be doomed to have a hard time crossing borders if we are residents of Guatemala?

Any thoughts on this would be immensely appreciated!!!

Or if anyone has a link to a thread with similar info, that would be a start!

Thanks everyone so much

is your fiance canadian citizen?

it's better to have the baby born either in the US or canada..To avoid too much paper works.(but no matter what because you are indeed US citizen...the baby will be automatic US citizen  )but ofcouse that all up to u guys.

if your fiance is canadian citizen, she could come to US even without visitor visa as long that she won't over stayed the 6months period OR she has the option to request for extention(my mom she's canadian citizen too.)....

you guys obviously could marry here in the US without filing for anything....that what my sister did before...w/her fiance(her husband now)....before they decided to permanently stay in canada...their 1st child was born here in the US...but when they moved in canada they file for dual citizen for their son(canadian/US citizen).

goodluck

Hi, thanks for the info. Yes my girlfriend is a canadian citizen. We want to have the baby in Guatemala due mostly to the fact that I own land there, and would like to live there in the future semi permanently. Not to mention the fact that everything is way cheaper there.

Our main concern is traveling in the future and securing some means to easy passage between all 3 countries.

I am posting this here because I did not find any information regarding people who DO NOT want to become citizens of each others' countries, and most certainly DO NOT want to live there permanently.

If there is a thread out there with similar info I would very much love a link :)

I realize this must be a quirky question, but that is really our problem in finding reassuring information.

Again, thanks for all your help :)

How far along will she be when she's travelling ? Also what travelling are you referring to in becoming permanent residents? Plus like someone already said being a North American makes it easy for you guys to travel back and forth.

There is nothing you can do to ease travel. Each country will asses your liklihood to stay there, so if you live in Guatemala as a family then entering either country for visits should work out fine.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
