So now that my fiancé got approved for his visa, we are looking at flights to the US. I’ve read that immigration can take up to several hours, so it is wise to have at least a 4 hour layover at POE. Other than his passport and visa, what other documents does he need at POE? Is it ok for him to come to the US without me? I don’t need to travel with him, do I? I’ve read some reviews about Miami and JFK. Are there any POEs to avoid or try and schedule flights into certain POEs?

You do not need to travel with him. He will also need his sealed envelope so he should carry it in his carry-on bag. Read reviews about any of the airports you are thinking about having him come through for his POE. It can take a few hours sometimes to get processed through, so plan any connection flights accordingly. Having at least the 4 hours between connecting flights is a good idea. If getting through immigration does not take that long, he can just relax, grab a bite to eat, read a book, etc. while waiting for his next flight. It is better to be early than too late.

Right, we can't forget the sealed envelope. I've read some people say they brought their x-rays. Does he really need to bring that to the US? Some people said they asked for a certified copy of a birth certificate at POE and kept it. So I just wanna make sure that he's prepared when he comes and brings everything they might ask for. Is there a checklist or a guide somewhere? I didn't think the POE would need all of this stuff.
