i don't see it as hypocrytical at all. i see it as knowing nothing is black & white, there is always going to be a gray area. imho- an outright ban and virtually no restrictions are both extremely short sighted & dangerous positions to take.

hmm.. ummm.. ok... I understand you don't see it as hypocritical.. but.. well it fits the definition.. A woman is brutally raped and becomes pregnant.. Is that a life? Should it be legal for her to abort in your view? If so how to you reconcile that if you think its a life? That is black and white.. If you think an unborn fetus is a life and the woman's life is not in danger then it is hypocritical for you to be for a legal abortion in any circumstance based on the views you have expressed.

that's no to say it is not pragmatic .. or maybe a stepping stone method to a goal.. But lets not pretend it makes any logical sense, its just a temporary compromise.

The solution here is to give mother's a special 'rape bond' to help cover the cost of bringing up their rape child. Presumably special 'child of rape' bursaries can be set up so that at age 18 all of the kids have an opportunity to go on to college.

You're assuming that they care about that child once it's born. That's a false assumption.

I am an independent and I am very pro-life as well and I support a woman's prerogative to decide on her pregnancy.

I have said before that I believe everyone to be against abortions. Even the women who have to resort to it don't do so lightly or without putting a lot of thinking into that decision.

I feel about abortion the same way I feel about hysterectomies and mastectomies. Everyone is against them but there are instances when they are the best option. It should be up to the individual to make that call. I do not advocate the notion the State or Federal government should force a woman to take an unwanted pregnancy to term.

That would be called "pro-choice".. The viewpoint you expressed fits very nicely with that movement. Neither side celebrates abortions or is trying to talk people into them. The debate is about who has the final say: society or the woman. If you go to a pro-life rally you will find nobody shares your views on leaving it up to the woman to decide.. The pro-choice people on the other hand would give you a big thumbs up and maybe a hug, so go on over and say hello.

The names could be better.. Maybe "pro-legalization" and "anti-legalization"
