Hi, what is the difference between PDOS & Guidance Counseling for foreign spouse.

I am married to a norwegian, residing abroad and unemployed. I believe, I have to attend only CFO.

But one member here suggested to me that I have to attend also PDOS, though I am not working.

Do I have to or just counseling for foreign spouse is enough?

Thanks for your reply.

CFO is the organization giving both PDOS and G&C seminars. If I remember correctly, they gave one seminar right after the other, and then the one-on-one interview in the afternoon.

In G&C, they mostly talked about interracial marriages, and presented "worst case scenarios" of what life could be like with the foreign partner, especially if you don't know him/her that well.

In the PDOS part, I remember them talking about what to bring and what NOT to bring to the airport on the day of your flight.

I am engaged, during my G&C at CFO, there were some women there that are married to other foreign nationals. We only had Guidance Counseling and that was it. We were instructed to come back for stamping because I didn't have my visa yet at that time that I went for G&C.

My visa packet even includes a reminder to attend the CFO-PDOS.

"Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the Commission of Filipinos Overseas (CFO), and attend the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) or Peer Counseling Session...

The PDOS is for emigrants petitioned by their parents, siblings, or immediate relatives, including independent applications; who are 20-59 years old"

Yes, there IS a separate seminar for PDOS only, and this is the one for workers. But that doesn't mean that the one you have to attend doesn't contain PDOS. As I told you, in my experience, one was given right after the other.
