I am at the nvc stage and going to send i-864, but I am going to med school now and resigned from my job (income zero) so my brother is going to be the joint sponsor.

I am the primary sponsor and filling i-864, I am also filling out i-864A which is the contract that my brother will support and all that. But the question is, does my brother need to fill out a seperate i-864? I have asked NVC but havent heard anything yet

Or my brother fills out i-864 only? if that, then he will become the only sponsor?

Thanks

Skip the I-864a as that's for combining income. Since yours is zero, there's nothing to combine. One I-864 from each of you.

you will need to fill one out regardless and yes your brother is required to fill out an entire 864 himself, my sister had to do the same for me few months back as welll sent my docs to the nvc and had no problem oh and he will include other documents as will related to his income liike last 3 payment stubs his 2011 w2 form and a job letter from his employer stating how much he makes annually and that he is currently employed with them. the link for job letter i just mentioned is on the uscis website

Don't forget to include evidence of the joint sponsor's US Citizenship.

Thanks both guys, I really appreciate it... I was confused about the evidence of the joint sponsor us citizenship..you mean between me and my brother?

To be a Joint Sponsor, you need to be a US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident. You, as the petitioner have already provided evidence of US Citizenship with the petition but the joint sponsor has not. They need to provide a photocopy of a certified copy of their US Birth Certificate or a photocopy of their US Passport data page along with their I-864 package. No, your brother doesn't have to prove he's your brother.
