Hello everyone,

I am near completing the I-129F package. However, i have a question about the proof of name change in the #7-Part A in I-129F,"Other name used". I used different name when I first immigrated to U.S. when I was 13 years old. About 6 years later, I took the Certificate of Naturalization at the local court, the person who did the paper work "verbally" told me to use my American name as first name, my original name as middle name and last name remind the same. Before that I only used my original first name on legal documentations, not the American first name.

Now, for the I-129F, what kind of documentation do i need to show proof of the name change since it was done "verbally". I have Certification of Naturalization and U.S. passport that show American first name, original name now middle name and same last name, would those 2 be sufficient to prove the name change?

Thank you very much in advance!

I would think your naturalization certificate trumps ALL, you should have changed all official documents after being naturalized, if not, you can do it now, that is DMV, SS, etc...

I received a name change form together with my CoN.

A person can use whatever name they want. However that name may not necessarily be your legal name. That's typically done through a court proceeding (naturalization is one example). There would be documentation of that legal name change.

That means, I can submit a copy of Certification of Naturalization with the I-129F package and it will be good enough for USCIS for the proof of name change?

Thank you very much for providing the information.
