Private Health Insurance in Hawaii

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with private health insurance companies in Hawaii? I haven't moved to the states yet, but my POE on my K1 visa will be next week. I'm running into some roadblocks in trying to get coverage as a new immigrant (even some of the providers that have so called 'new-immigrant' medical insurance still ask for a date of return to home country on their applications...) and would appreciate any suggestions on companies that have accepted people in the past as they move to the states and adjust status.

I was really hoping to get on with US NetCare, but they will only cover you up until the time you apply to adjust status, and since we plan on being married and adjusting my status within a few weeks of my arrival it just won't work for us.

I should also mention that my future husband does not have coverage through work, so I need an individual plan.

Thank you!

Does he have coverage? If yes, inquire about being added to his. If not, do some googling and/or have him do some leg work. Gonna be $$$$.

Thanks for your reply

Just in case anyone stumbles on this topic in the future, I wanted to share what I found out. I'm going with a plan through Patriot America that I found on a site called ***removed***. They have a section of their website devoted to new immigrant policies. Their phone support staff were surprisingly really helpful (actually able to answer questions) and the one man I spoke to suggested the plan to me that I ended up purchasing.

Also, a lot of hawaii health insurance providers have clauses in the fine print stating you cannot be covered for injuries/accidents while surfing/rock climbing/hiking/a lot of other 'adventure sports', but with the Patriot America plan you have the option to purchase what's called a rider to cover you for these activities.

Edit: For some reason it removes the name of the site whenever I type it, so if you're interested PM me
