EAD and SSN Question

I am sure the answer to my question is already somewhere in this forum but unfortunately can't find it! I have my interview in Montreal on August 15th for CR1/IR1 Visa. Once I am approved (hopefully), get my documents back from Montreal, and cross into the USA - will I have any sort of document that makes me eligible to apply for work in the USA as well as apply for EI in Canada? I am specifically wondering if I'll have an EAD document when I arrive in the USA and then how long I will have to wait to receive my SSN? I requested that I receive my SSN upon entering the USA but can I go to the SSN office once I'm there and get it sooner? If anyone can answer this question I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you and have a good day everyone.

If you will be getting a CR-1/IR-1, then there is no EAD. Your green card (or the visa in your passport that will be stamped when you enter, until you get the actual GC) is proof of your legal ability to work in the US.

As for the SSN, they seem to be very hit and miss as to whether you will actually get one sent to you, even if you asked them to assign you one. You can go into the SSA yourself and see if one has been assigned, if not you can apply for one then. Most people say you should wait about 2weeks after arrival into the US before you go to the SSA, to be sure that your details have been updated in the system. But I guess if you are really keen to get to work straight away (sounds like you are) then I guess it couldn't hurt to go in a few days after arrival.

When we're in USA, are we allowed to collect EI from Canada? I'll be going on a K-1 visa..

You can on a K1 when you are "ready, willing, and albe to work" - as in YOU have your EAD card, not necessary for a Cr1

Good luck
