Hello everybody:

So, I have a question and I apologize if this has been asked many many times, but I admit, I am lazy to scroll through the pages over and over to find if it's up or not.

So, as an F1 student I am to marry a US citizen. I am aware of all the forms required, and all the medical exams needed. Indeed, I have lived in the US for most of my childhood, so I have all my medical records from here, and have a social security. Now, during when I was a high school kid, I've got EAD to work. I worked, not violated anything, but also got along an Alien registration number. Now, I have two questions (and I hope I gave enough information for you guys to be able to give answers/suggestions/ideas):

1. as a current F1 student who is to marry a US citizen, obviously I need to file along for I-765. Now, it asks is this a "new", or a "replacement" EAD card I'm applying for. Now, I was not on F1 visa as a kid, so I guess it would fit into the "new" (that is, initial) EAD application. But I am not sure? Any idea? Do I have to pay EAD fee?

2. on many of the forms it is asking for "alien registration number". I did got one when I applied for EAD as a kid, but that was under different visa category than F1. Should I still put that in the forms, or since I am on a completely different visa status currently, that "alien registration number" does not apply/fit/match?

Thank you, thank you!

Yes, it's a new EAD, not a renewal, because the old EAD was based on different eligibility criteria. For all I know, A-numbers are supposed to be issued for life, so I would out the A# you have in the forms. They might still issue you a new one with the AOS (this has happened with some VJ members earlier), but they will be able to also match the old one to you.

Hey Little_My,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I was sort of thinking along the same line when it comes to EAD, as it is a different visa category. :) And as of the A#, I really had new clew, but I'm glad you clarified that for me. :) See, this is what happens when you grew up here as an alien. LOL :) Anyway, thank you so much for your reply and I wish you all the best!

Please take care!

Sorry, one more quick question Little_My: do I need to pay the filing fee of $380?

Thank you and sorry for bugging you!

There is no fee if you are filing an I-765 either concurrently or after filing an I-485.

H-1B does not have any alien number.

Enter "None".
