Immigrate without marriage

I am posting for someone else this time~

He is a USC and his girlfriend lives in England. He isn't so keen on the idea of getting married as he has gotten divorced only recently. Is there any way for them to be together without getting married?? She doesn't need to work here when she comes to live, they just really want to be together!

Any suggestions/ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!! :D

provided she's willing to leave the country after about 3 months, she could come over and live with thim on VWP.

Of course, it might be easier if he was to go live with her there, since the vwp lets a USC stay in the UK for up to 6 months.

Otherwise... is she still in school? If so, maybe she can do a study abroad program at a college near where he lives?

Or find a US employer willing to take her on, but that's very difficult to do unless you have a lot of qualifications, or want to pick fruit.

And all of those ways have a 'time limit'. Eventually she will have to leave.

Agreed.

there really aren't very many ways to "immigrate" to the US without a family-based visa unless you're highly qualified.

Thanks All!!

He doesn't want to move to the UK even though he does have dual citizenship- he got things ttooooo good here in the states!

She is not a student

She doesn't have many qualifications

She would come here for 3 months and take a trip to canada every now and then to get her vistors visa renewed, but they would catch on to that after awhile. I heard through the grapvine there is a way to extend a VWP by a few more months-- any word on that??

toughie.

if he lives along the mexican border, say in san diego, they could look into getting some sort of temporary residency visa in mexico, live in tijuana, and he can still do business in the us of a.

like most unsaul situatins, it is best they consult an immigration attny.

Nope. Popping over the border will only highlight her being in the country. Coming back from Canada will not renew her VWP. The VWP is not set up for that kind of abuse.

I think your friend will just have to go through what near enough everyone on this site has gone through. Visits back and forth until they are ready to make the next step. I'm sure there would have been plenty of us willing to come and hang out here to test the waters before making a committment. I'm sure they can be grown ups and cope with it.

I can sympathize! My fiancé and I didn't want to get married just to be together, we wanted to get married to be married, when we were ready. So we spent over two years travelling back and forth.

There aren't many options that aren't work-based or student-based; you can check out the list at travel.state.gov. Might be best to do a few trips until he's feeling more confident about marriage again.

Maybe he could move there for a while (international office with work or something)?

These kind of posts always take me back to the days when I first met Wes....

I was looking for a way for him to come over too, without commitment.

You'd have a hard time convincing me that most of the members of this board, if they answer HONESTLY, wouldn't tell you the same thing. But there's no such thing as a "shackin' up" visa.

Pity. I'd bet it would rake in the fee income for USCIS.
