I have a cousin story....

sigbet.jpg

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I'm pretty sure my example was two consenting MARRIED adults, who's marriage was nullified once they found out they were brother and sister. They were adults, they loved each other, they wanted to be together, they had sex together, they made babies....satisfies every bit of your argument. Where does ignorance come into this? Once they discovered their relationship was considered morally and socially wrong, they continued to do it, they were punished for it...well he was anyway.

If you had a hot cousin that liked you, and you liked them, and you two really hit it off, best of friends, would you want to marry?

I'm not sure why you're so intent on comparing homosexuality to incest, but I'll state my opinion once again. If two consenting adults want to have a relationship, then I am all for it. If they are cousins, so be it. Though I don't think people closely related should be having children, due to the high risk of birth defects. It's personally not my cup of tea, but it isn't any of my business and if they aren't hurting anyone, then I couldn't care less.

I am firmly in the "live and let live" camp .. no amount of stories or statistics could make me care about who my neighbor or my mailman are banging behind closed doors.

For you perhaps that is true. Others may have a different take on this. For me, love and sex are intimately connected and I would not marry someone I did not love and with whom I did not enjoy having sex. The last place I would look for advice on sex would be the Torah or any other book depicting a society and habits of thousands of years ago, and I don't mean it in disrespect, so much as I question their knowledge on the subject.

I'm pretty sure that we have not learned anything new about sex, or life for that matter, that they didn't already know thousands of years ago. As evidence, there are plenty of gay paintings, and orgy art, plenty of atheist, etc. People have not really changed all that much, just the things around us have. The favorite past time of old, sitting back and relaxing with some alcohol, is just as popular now as it was then.

Because it's easier to debate incest instead of pedophilia or others, the "consenting adults" response always comes up, and incest is the only one that stands up to it. I brought up cousins because the US is the only nation that has states that have criminalized first cousin relationships. If someone supports homosexuality but does not incest...then you have someone who believes two different things based on a similar set of facts. I like to poke at that, especially the cousin camp, since birth defects are not as big of an issue as people make them sound, and it is not frowned upon in religion.

And you are right, who cares who does what behind closed doors. It's when it's not behind closed doors that it becomes a problem. We just need to have a vote, and end it at that. That is what democracy is for. Unfortunately it just takes one judge to overturn a vote, and it's already happened.

What are you referring to here? Public displays of affection or something more? And a problem for who?

Whatever the case, it does not make a good argument to prevent two consenting adults from getting married, in the XXI Century.

In some states and countries it is perfectly legal for cousins to marry, so there is no point in comparing same-sex marriage to incest.

To each, his own.

Just curious Gowon, but how does someone new to this site have a 2009 quote from Danno in their sig ?

Hmmm..ummm....what..... :hehe:

It's a little, but very worthwhile, activity called STFA.

You should try it sometimes. It opens a whole new world of archived VJ information.

:ot2: ..let's help the alternative lifestyle folks get the same treatment.

Gowon says that If their tax money is good enough then they're good enough.
