I got married on Jan 19th 2012 (arrived in the USA in November 2011)

My i-194 expired in April, but I have my SSN in my maiden name. Although as I found out this doesn't let me do much, tried to get added to my husbands bank account but they had to jump through a million hoops because the i-194 expired, because she said it meant my SSN had expired too???

I still haven't applied for the AOS as we've had a few issues with my husbands work - all our savings have gone and we're in the process of slowly saving up again.

Is this an issue that I haven't filed for AOS yet? Will there be any penalties for filing it so late? I will probably have to have another medical (My medical was in August last year) so we wont be filing for a while yet, I'm just stressing myself out. :clock::cry:

Nope you'll be fine. As you know you'll need a new medical but aside from that if you do it before you've been married 2 years you just file like normal. The sooner the better obviously but sometimes life happens.

No your SSN hasn't expired. Go to a different bank and get a joint account there. You shouldn't need a SSN to open an account.

What if we file the AOS after the two years? Not that I think we'll be waiting THAT long to file, but I was just reading about 'removal of conditions' and all this other stuff and I'm all confused now, haha. If we file before the two years, do we have to 'remove the conditions' after the two years is up? I'm such a noob. lol.

I didn't think my SSN had expired, I guess with the I-194 being expired she was confused, she said herself that she'd never had to open an account for someone from another country before. We ended up (apparently) adding my name to his account using my birth certificate and she used my Australian credit card as a form of ID because of the SSN-issue. So far we haven't got any letters or a new card for me from the bank, so we're going to go down there again tomorrow to try and sort it out.

that's totally fine, as long as you're on the account that matters for now. you can add the SSN later.

People who AOS from a K1 MUST get a 2 year card. But if you're married longer than 2 years you're supposed to get a 10 year card so you would file the I-130/1-485 packet if you waited longer than 2 years so that you get the 10 year card. Of course your evidence will need to be stronger by then
