Hi folks.

I'll make it quick here.

I'm Indian. I've been accepted to a univ in US and will be attending from Fall 2012 (September 2012).

I have my I-20.

Here's the problem:

My passport expires in Aug 2013. I need a Visa for at least 4 years. For that, my Passport's expiry should be at least 5 years from now. However, the passport office cannot re-issue a passport to me until next month (1 year from expiry).

What should I do here? How should I apply for the visa?

Thanks

When is your visa interview?

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Then just apply... by the time you have your interview you can have your new passport in hand.

I hardly think so. I anticipate my interview to be held no later than 20 of this month. I'm not legible to apply for new passport before 20 August 2012. And I absolutely need both the things before that.

I have paid the SEVIS fee and will pay the MVR fee tomorrow. I've heard that they do this all the time. They issue visa on existing passport, and when new passport is issued, we need to carry both ones at all times.

I dont think you require a new passport.Just apply with your current passport. If they grant you a visa, then they will have it attached to your current passport.Your visa will be valid for the length of your course, probably about 4 years. And even if your passport expires, youll still have a valid F1 visa..Youll just have to be carrying both your passports..Thats pretty much it.You just need to make sure that your passport is valid for atleast 6months from the date of entry into US.

This is my opinion based on my knowledge.Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
