Well it's a good thing to have for the i-130 but opening a joint account in the US is not that easy.

It probably depends on the bank, in our case they're asking for either a US social security number or an ITIN number to fill even the first forms, so getting one of these would be the first step.

My husband tried last year,but opening an account or a joint account is NOT possible if you are not there yet.

However,your wife can put you as her POD,which is what we did;so my name is on all the statements next to my husbands name and even on the checks so they will definitely see that when they cash any check from us.

USCIS Stage: 7 Days

07/26/12 - I-130 package sent

07/30/12 - package received

08/01/12 - NOA1 received via email

08/08/12 - APPROVED - NOA2 received via email (USC residing abroad)

NVC Stage

xx/xx/12 - Case has arrived at NVC

xx/xx/12 - Case number received

xx/xx/12 - AOS bill received via email

xx/xx/12 - AOS bill paid via portal & DS3032 accepted

xx/xx/12 - IV bill received and paid. AOS bill appears as PAID.

xx/xx/12 - DS230 and I864 packages

xx/xx/12 - I864 and DS230 sent to NVC

xx/xx/12 - AOS package accepted

10/09/12 - CASE COMPLETE

11/26/12 - Interview Date Assigned

11/28/12 - INTERVIEW DATE - APPROVED

You can add to an account while not being present. Some banks will allow, some will not allow.

Agreed. Bank of America added me before I was resident.

12/12/2011 - Welcome notice received
01/06/2012 - Green card received
09/06/2013 - File for Removal of Conditions
10/01/2013 - Biometrics for ROC
02/03/2014 - Card production email received

02/17/2014 - 2nd card production email received

02/28/2014 - 10 year Green card received
