You would have got a letter stating your petition has been sent to Vermont or California. There is a reference letter number combo (3 letters then numbers) like: WAC1234595 etc.

WAC I believe is the prefix code for California.

If you filled in the form for it you will get updates via email or you can check the status of your petition visa USCIS.gov using your reference letter/ number , you may have to sign up.

Expect your petition for the first stage to the approval ( NOA1- NOA2 ) to take around 5 months.

Are you at the 5 month mark, March 2012 you sent it right?

You can check your application status at USCIS website, you just have to provide them your receipt number. Our application was sent on 29th of February this year, had our NOA1 on march 6th and still got no NOA2 yet.. Got nothing to worry about pal, you're still within the normal waiting time, and YOU'RE NOT ALONE :)

NVC notice received: 2012 July 30

Medical Exam : 2012 Aug 13-14.. PASSED :)

Thank you guys for the information. Yes, I applied in March so I guess that puts me around August to hear back from them. I will definitely sign up on their website, that will be a big help. I tried calling a month or two ago but could not get anyone on the phone. (again Im new at this haha!) Thank you again!

Ok, I will :) One other quick question. Typically how long does it take after we hear from USCIS to have her go to the Embassy and get clearance?

That would depend on the country, which we can't see since you haven't added that information. :) Take a look at the Embassy Info tab up top and look up your country for details.
