Hello. My step dad (French citizen) and mom (US citizen)were married this year. His visa expired but he is currently in pending status with USCIS. The last appointment was for the finger printing. After that appointment, the passport has been lost. We checked everywhere. What is our next step? Will he be denied? Can we apply for another French passport here in the states?

Did you report it lost to the police? Thats the first step generally.

Then use the reports with the application for a new passport.

Check with the french embassy. The website should have information for this type of issue.

You have to contact French embassy/consulate in your area to make sure. Some embassy just gives you a piece of paper stating that you lost your passport in US so that you can still get on a plane and leave the country. I think if you explain your situation, they will issue a new passport though.

I lost my passport once in US while on a student visa and Japanese consulate issued me a new passport. The new passport says "this passport is a replacement of passport #xxxxxxxx." I did contact the police, searched my passport together, and file the police report though. Japanese consulate didn't ask me for the police report, but you have to make sure that with your embassy as well.

Yes he can apply for a passport in the us if he is resident. He will need to apply for a lost/ stolen passport with the police declation paper. If he is not a resident in the usa,he will need to apply for an emergency passport which it is not good to him as his validity is for 6 mth/1year and most countries.will not issue permanent visa on it.

Therefore,

1- report lost passport at yr nearest police station.

2- check if y have any copy of the lost information page of yr passport anywhere with a copy of the temporary US visa

3- contact the french embassy, or have a look at the french embassy website in the usa. They are normally very easy to undertsand. Y prob will need to take an appointment but please make y have all docsbas request in it.

Hope it helps even if the reply is late.
