Hello Everybody,

We finally got the Green Card this week. But now we have a huge concern. My wife got her SSN and Driver License with the Married last name. But we got the Green Card with her Maiden name. We went to the Social Security Office and told them that want to change her SSN to the Maiden name, but they told us that we need to change the Green Card name in order to her have a Valid SSN.

We are not sure what to do, I dont think is fair to pay 400 dlls for the I-90 form to change her name. Do you think this was a USCIS error?

Any comments? or Suggestions.

Thanks,

George

You must have filled out the AOS paperwork in her maiden name. You should have filled it out in married name. You can either pay to replace GC with married name, or wait until ROC and fill out the forms in married name then.

No, USCIS did not make an error. How are they supposed to know that your wife is changing her name if you don't tell them?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Hmmm...USCIS makes mistakes too. My wife got her EAD and travel card wrong. I called and placed a service request. I had to send the card back with our marriage certificate. Check your application to see if you filed under the correct name. You can call them and try to correct it. The number is on the letter that came with your card. It doesn't hurt to try. If you don't correct it now, you will have more problems in the future.

Good luck!

If you filed I-485 with her maiden name, that's your error. You will have to pay I-90 fee to correct this.

If you filed I-485 with her married name, that's USCIS error and you should be able to get them to correct the name without having to pay.
