hi Everyone

firstly I am not sure if I am posting in the right forum so to all the admin's I apologize from now..

now to the business at hand :

I received my SS card in mail today and stamped on it "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION"

has anyone have this happen to them? Is this the norm before receiving the green card (and upon receiving GC I change it)?

Can I still take this to my local DPS office and apply for my Drivers License ?

Thanks for all the replies :star:

It always say that until u receive EAD or GC when u receive any of them u can back to them and get new one it will be the same number tho. yes still can go to get the driver license with your SS that u received however the driver license should expire by the expiration of your I-94 form. Good Luck

No. You cannot remove that notation with the EAD. You can only have it removed once you have your green card.

OP> The card is good for everything any other SS card is good for. The notation simply means you cannot work with just the SSN and need the work authorization to go with it to be employed. The EAD and SSN go together for the purpose of employment. You can go back to the SSA to update your status and have that notation removed when you receive your green card.

States vary in the rules for obtaining a drivers license. You should be able to get one based on your EAD and not the I-94, but you need to check with the DMV for your state to be sure.
