I just have a question... Well first my father is petitioning for me (LPR but soon is becoming citizen)(I'm 21/unmarried) I'm familiar with the whole situation on how to file/time wait, except even upon calling the embassy what they told me wasn't clear, I was a permanent resident myself the green card won originally through the lottery program (by my mother), it expired a year ago but I've been out of the country for 4 years, what I'm still wondering is since I've been told by an immigration officer that my "status" is still there I'm still somewhere on file because I was a LPR, so do I need to forfeit my status before my dad petitions for me or does that not matter at all since my status expired? As I said I asked through the embassy but the guy gave me such a vague answer that after a few times asking to clarify he ended up contradicting himself, he first said my status is expired because I've been out so long so there is no need to forfeit anything, and then said BUT no one can legally ask you to forfeit YOUR STATUS if you don't want to? Which just made me even more confused. So I'm just wondering if someone knows or is/was in a similar situation? I just want to get this over with, without any mistakes and enjoy my loooooong wait for a new green card :D

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to do anything.

What he may have meant is that they still have your information on file.
