In the past, it's been recommended that you have your Evolution of Relationship Letter Notarized at the Guangzhou Embassy during an ACS Appointment. However, I've had other opinions that this is a waste of time, and that handing it in un-Notarized is just as good. What is the current thinking on this?

Evolution of Relationship letter.

EOR

see http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/234971-red-flag-list-for-visa-denial/page__view__findpost__p__3836108

I wish the op could differentiate between 'I heard' vs 'Darnell wrote'

as at least there'd be one less source to worry about.

IMO, the NEED for a NEW (or updated) EOR for GUZ IV depends on yer situation. Red Flags? Life changing events occur?

Have a look at that post, and then YOU decide if you need one, or not need one.

My opinion is all posts should start with "Darnell what do you think about this?"

I have read a lot and learned from your answers even where professional help was not clear. I am sure many people here appreciate your answers.

I HAVE decided to do one because of some potential red flags and unique circumstances. Howver, my question was about the efficacy/advantage of spending the time to make a GUZ ACS Appointment and having it notarized, as opposed to just handing it in "as is".

i think the content in that link described the efficacy of doing it, but time passed since i wrote that [more than 2 years]

it's not the notarization, imo, but the possiblity of a IV-ConOff to see it, prior to interview day.

For some folk, it has been a waste of time.

That's what I was looking for. Updated information. Thank you. How much does the embassy charge for notarization?

The main embassy in Beijing charges $50 US.

And I agree with Dave and Joy. I think we should all take Darnell out for a drink.

Also, thanks, Darnell for saving me the trouble of going and digging about that.

to make a GUZ ACS Appointment

ACS at the Consulate has "walk-in" hours if you don't want to make an appointment, you would need to show your passport to security personnel during those hours and will be allowed to proceed. Making an appointment will put in front of others who just "show up."

That's what I was looking for. Updated information. Thank you. How much does the embassy consulate charge for notarization?

$50

My opinion is all posts should start with "Darnell what do you think about this?"

I have read a lot and learned from your answers even where professional help was not clear. I am sure many people here appreciate your answers.

Oh, basically, I hope folk understand that

1. I am NOT an expert and

2. I am NOT an attorney and

3. I do NOT prepare documents for pay for others.

I am, OTOH, exceptionally ####### about forms and process, in general.

My knowledge comes from a variety of places, some of my direct experience but a LOT of reading and a LOT of vetting for accuracy.

In general, when I read something, I look for the cr@p first, or the fork in the path that puts a human on a time-wasting journey.

Basically, I was trying to remove myself from FoundNanning's base of info - for if it was something that I wrote, and it's wrong - I'm happy to keep up with it and write either NEW info or UPDATED info or Corrected Info (as I truly am an ####### cuss that thinks that knowledge is power)

The 'notarize at ACS' trick , used to work all the time, as the staff handling the notarization work USUALLY were actual IV officers, folk that were reviewing the casefile already and were going to handle the interview later - so these staff would have had a bit of knowledge about THE CASEFILE .

These days, I am not so certain it works ALL the time, as there's been some reports that there are OTHER staff now, not IV ConOffs, that are doing the notary work (junior jetboys perhaps, just fresh on station or temporarily tasked from the consulate office next to White Swan Hotel)

To wrap it up though, since FoundNanning is gonna be there regardless, another path that show's he's there -

place the un-notarized EOR in his passport , and SHE hands it over to the IV ConOff within the first 30 seconds of the interview (this last bit is important, as it's possible to change the entire tenor of the interview when the IV ConOff sees this)

Whew! I hope I explained myself a bit. I know we're gonna have some jitters also when we're up to bat at GUZ IV this year.

It sounds like we will have at least two folks in the un-notarized EOR group, FoundNanning and myself. I have prepared a nice EOR letter. I was looking at the somewhat convoluted process needed to getting it notarized. Then to add to that Darnell gave us his comment on the different state of affairs at GUZ and CO notarization of EOR letters......

I will be there with my mei mei and her son in GZ. I will give her my passport with the un-notarized EOR letter, folded lengthwise, inserted into the passport, and ask her to hand it to the CO at the beginning of the interview. We shall see how it goes.

Our foremost intention is to have their visa applications approved. Since I cannot be present at the interview, I want to convey in a polite way that we have an ongoing bonafide loving relationship, and that I have come from Seattle to personally support and assist my mei mei in this portion of our immigration journey. We are a team, and that is how our team gets things accomplished! YMMV.

As an aside, the date for her interview will also be her birthday.... hopefully, it will be cause for a dual celebration..... :star: :star:

At the present time, I am finishing up collecting the evidence substantiating our ongoing relationship, my I-134 packet is completed. She is finishing up her Packet 4 forms, collecting, her and her son's, health and vaccination records. Our time is drawing nigh.

Wishing good fortune to all of our fellow VJ travelers!

Thanks all for your Inputs. They are greatly appreciated! Now, a question about the actual Format of the letter. I sent one with my I-130 (2 pages), and an updated one with my DS-230 (3 pages with update). I note the example EOR Letter here posted by that guy named Darnell (who's he? ;-) ).

I'm now preparing one for my wife to hand in at the interview. If I ADD another update, it will be 4 pages! Should I boil down/ condense these four pages into 1?

My opinion is this, for an EOR that is taken at interview time to be useful, it needs to be one page. A CO is unlikely to have the time or the inclination to read a 4 page EOR during the interview itself.
