A&B,

So yah, i got our MNL # already. But will the NVC send me a letter that they forwarded the case to US embassy manila? I haven't received any letter from NVC as well

Don't wait for a letter. Call them and ask for a visa specialist. Tell the visa specialist your MNL# and ask for the latest processing time ticks...when it was sent and when it was recieved....

To be honest I don't remember if we got a letter from NVC or not. This may sound like a silly question but why do you need a hard copy if you know it's been sent on to the consulate? I understand that it would make you nervous not having it but if your approved petition has been sent on to consulate what additional duty does your NOA2 serve? Does Manila require it at the interview?

The only time I remember using our NOA2 was for her AOS application. I might wait another couple of weeks to see if it turns up.

I got the letter from NVC yesterday. I was just asking so if i don't receive our NOA2 then maybe i can use the NVC letter instead for the AOS. Do you think that will work?

That is great that you got your letter from NVC.

In response to your question: NO, you will need your I-797 - NOA2 form, refer to Form I-485, Part 2c, for details. I believe that I specifically mentioned this to you earlier in this thread. Refer to prior postings for more information.

If you call the USCIS, please don't refer to a "NOA2" as its a made up term with no official meaning. What you need is your Approval Notice.

You will definitely need a hard copy of that.

(Would be nice if everyone on VJ referred to an approval notice as an approval notice, not a NOA2).

Why are you so very against this? I think every post I see from you is about how we call it the NOA2 to simplify things.

No, it is not an official term. But on VJ, it makes it easier to separate it from an RFE or a denial. Calling an RFE the NOA2 would confuse people, so we don't. People go buy the guides and the guides call an approval the NOA2. It's really no big deal.

How is calling an approval notice a NOA2 more simple??

Yes, the guides call it a NOA2, but why??

My main point was not to use the term NOA2 when calling the USCIS.

Yes, its my pet peeve and I know it likely won't change but using the terms receipt notice, RFE or approval notice seem the simpliest and clearest to me. Why are you against that?? :)

I agree with not calling it an NOA2 with USCIS, they'd have no idea.

I'm only against it because it's everywhere on this website. It's in the guides, the flowchart, everything. NOA1 - receipt notice. It's the 1st NOA you get. Other than an RFE, the NOA2 is an approval or denial. 99% of the time, it's an approval. So saying they got their NOA2 generally means approval. Everyone understands it here, so I'm not sure why it needs to be changed.

When i call USCIS.. I tell them i have received my approval notice through email but not the hardcopy. People call it NOA2 here because that's usually the second notice of action you receive. Simple as that.
