hi everyone, i am here again to ask help. i received my green card about a week ago and the resident since and expiration dates are wrong. resident since date is dated April 2017 and the expiration is 2019. i called USCIS to ask what i should do and the agent said to file i-90. she also mentioned that i should go to make an infopass appointment to get a temporary 1-551 stamp. well, we made the appointment for today...my husband and i went to local USCIS office here in Salt Lake. before we could even explain what we're there for, the officer kept saying "Wait..wait a sec, hold on...i will walk you through." he kept interrupting us with our questions even though we let him finished talking. he did not even know what dates should be on the card. when he looked at my card, he said "Oh this should be dated 2007." And I told him but I came here 2011 through K1 visa. He checked my records and it said the same thing for resident since and expiration date of the permanent residency. Prior to making the appointment, I was under the impression that I could get this temp stamp. I was asking the officer for clarification about it, but he did not let me finish talking and he just said the EAD is still good, we will stamp your passport if you file the i-90 and show us the receipt. my husband and i just left basically frustrated cuz he was obviously just trying to get rid of us right away. i felt i have no power at all to speak because i was still under the "mercy" of the USCIS people. before we left, i was just basically asking him that shouldn't the green card supersede the EAD. because he made it sound like if I am looking for a job, my EAD is still good. he said my green card is approved but then he made it sound like i was still in limbo while waiting for the replacement and I could use the EAD instead of the green card. my concern is, i am pursuing these jobs which normally requires at least a green card holder...and he told me to say that my green card is still pending -- which is normally not good enough answer to pursue these jobs.

*sigh* so anyway, am i back on limbo or what? can i use the EAD whilst waiting for the green card? should i tell recruiters i am a green card holder? and is the order of processing correct in order for me to get the temporary stamp?

btw, just a side note...the officer was even surprised that i got the green card without having to go through an interview. we're just a bit frustrated that we have been patient with the USCIS people, we didn't even schedule an infopass before to ask about the green card. we paid a thousand dollars for the long wait and now we have to do more paperwork and waiting for their mistake.

thanks in advance.

I am sorry to hear of your issues. I don't have much to say other than a comment on your last point, that the officer was surprised that you didn't receive an interview after being transferred to CSC. I have found that whenever I call the information line they say the same thing - that I have to be interviewed before I receive my GC, even after transfer to CSC, that I have to wait until my case is transferred to my local office and I receive an interview notice. They insist that all family-based AOS applications must go through an interview, even though we know that is not the case for most CSC transfers. Nobody seems to know what is going on.

You are not in limbo status. You are a Legal Permanent Resident. Have to fix the card though. Make sure to make them foot the bill, as it is their error.

Regarding documentation, I think what the officer was trying to say is that you could show the EAD to get hired since you have to send in the totally-messed up Greencard. I am not sure if that is true technically, since the EAD should be invalid now that you are a LPR, but an employer won't know either way, and you can get hired that way. It seems a bit sloppy though, to say the least. I would file I-90 and then go back for a I-551 stamp.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

thanks for your reply. yeah, it seems he is confused about everything. i think he initially thought that i came here through spouse visa. he barely looked at my appointment document and records.

thanks for the clarification. what really threw me off was the EAD and he didn't confirm my inquiry if the green card should void it. he made it sound like i could still use the EAD. i just hope for a speedy process this time to get the NOA as soon as possible to get my stamp.

thank you so much for your help.
