We are still in the process of finishing out our K-1 visa process, meaning he just received his visa by courier today (200 days after the NOA1) and we are still about a month or so away from him moving to the U.S. I have to admit, if we could do it again, we might have chosen the CR-1 route instead. The K-1 may seem faster, but since I could have (and had) travelled to see him, the CR-1, I think, might be better logistically for him. In the past few months, he has been working on getting his life organized in time for a move. He has been busy with his work and terminating his position has been quite tricky. Moving to the U.S. isn't simply, "got the visa, let's go." He has to give enough notice (by law), but can't do so until after the visa is issued (today). He now has 6 months to enter and once he enters we have 90 days to get married(we have planned a 6/13 wedding at city hall). Once he enters the country, he still has to wait for employment authorization. At least with the CR-1, he could have worked at his current job until he got the visa and then be ready to start a new job as soon as he entered the country. Our situation is very specific, so I know others may disagree, but perhaps the CR-1 might have been a better option for us. We have been together for 9 years (most of it long distance), so what's another few months, right?

But the time part really would be the same. He had talked about doing a quick marriage at the courthouse.

So let's say he does that this Friday, sends in the CR1 papers on Monday.

-Wife goes back to Canada.

-They try to visit each other and either get approved or denied at border

-wait 8-10 months for visa journey to be completed.

-POE America

-instant LPR including traveling in and out of US

OR Send in your K1 visa on Monday

-pay (I think!) double When all is said and done

-They try to visit each other and either get approved or denied at border

-wait 8-10 months for visa journey to be completed.

-POE America

-wait around for 90 days for almost everything.

Doesn't make sense to me unless they wanted to plan a real wedding. But hey, to each their own! What do I know?

Im not sure.. I will need to speak to her and review what she can actually show. what are some things that show a "tie" aside from those we already mentioned?

It seems like the person who should do the traveling to visit the other might need to be the one with more ties to their home country. It appears in this case that i will need to start visiting her much more often since i have a job, apartment, car lease etc. Hmmm

And because no one feels threatened that you are going to immigrate to Canada. You'll most likely be doing the visiting over there. Maybe on weekends. Spend the weeks apart. Might be good for you so you guys can "miss" each other and feel like you guys worked hard to be together and will remember that always!
