Dear all,

Yesterday I had my interview at the embassy and everything went well. (:)))) I got my passport back with the big stamp in it. They told me that I should receive the actual GreenCard within the next 6 weeks.

I found a job and I am supposed to start on Nov 1. Assuming that I will not have received the actual GreenCard nor my Social Security # by Nov 1, can I still start working? What should I tell my employer?

Thank you and all the best,

Michigan

The stamp on your passport is a proof of your permanent residency. I am not sure, if you can start working without a valid social security number. Usually the green card and the social security card arrives within 3 weeks. You can tell your employer that you can start working as soon as you receive your social security card.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Michigan,

You should be able to if you can show that you've applied for your SS card. Maybe submit a form SS-5 to the SSA even if you did correctly check the appropriate boxes of DS-230-II Q33.
