Hello, me and my fiancee have started the K-1 process, sent in the packet and she has been contacted by the embassy with the list of everything she needs to do.

So i have 2 questions.

1. I have been unemployed for 3 years while helping raise my niece so i dont have any tax return info. i Just started a job and i did

a contract job during the beginning of this year so i will have no problem supporting the 2 of us. I do have many people in my life that would co sign

for her financial support. So i guess i am wondering what i have to do (send in my form and the form of a sponsor)?

2. in the how to guide for the k-1 visa it says i should make a 2nd copy of my packet which i did but then it got destroyed in a flood so

im wondering if thats a problem or should we just bring everything that the embassy has asked for?

P.s. she is in Montreal Canada

Thanks

~Ryan M.

also if anyone want to help me more directly or have a conversation you can send me your skype, facebook, msn, or email and i would love

to get some info from somebody who has done this before in the same circumstances.

Welcome to the forum.

First off, you need to correct/clarify some information about yourself. :time: Are you filing for a J-1 visa (from your profile), or a K-1 visa (from your message)? Where are you in the process? Have you received your I-797c, NOA1 notice? If so, you still have quite a few months before you need to work on financial affidavits, though it is good to get started lining up your likely required sponsor. Hopefully someone from the Canada group can comment on specifics required for sponsorship for the Montreal consulate.

In the Guides, it says to make TWO copies of your packet. :bonk: The intent is that one copy is for you, and one copy is for her....so as to avoid possible issues, such as, one of you getting flooded. Hopefully you won't need the use of your only destroyed copy.

I would encourage you to carefully read and heed the guides and the information.contained therein.

Good luck on your visa journey.

I am in the process of a K-1 Visa sorry i must have miss-clicked.

Are financial co sponsors a semi-common thing that are generally accepted?

As for where we are in the process.. We are at the point where everything is processed and we are just waiting for my fiancee to

get her translated birth certificate and everything. then we she will make a medical appointment and then have her interview for

the issuing of her visa.

Okay, it sounds like you have received your NOA2, you have a DOS case number, and your fiancee is working on the list she got from the Montreal (?) consulate? Correct? If so, you should then go to the Montreal consulate info page, and carefully review their specific requirements regarding affidavit of support/sponsors/forms, etc. . Another good place to check out is the Canadian regional forum for the same information.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Ryan,

Just a word of advice going forward but make sure that you scan and save every document that you submit and make 2 copies (may seem a bit excessive but then again I am a worrywart). You will need the NOA2 later on for adjustment of status.

I used my sister as financial co-sponsor and had no problem. My interview was last week and petition was approved..just picked up my visa 2 hours ago.
