dia de los muertos is fun..

specially in cities like Puebla.. you buy the 'pan de muerto' which is a tasty bread, and then buy the sugar skulls..

Yummy. I'm here in DF right now and I've been stuffing my face with "pan de muerto" all week - very tasty and sweet.

I'd like some pan de muerto with hot frothy mexican chocolate..

*drool

If it wasn't so darn hot here, I'd whip some up tonight. But I'm not complaining - had a super yummy quesadilla con papas y queso with a huge "tutti-frutti" (orange, papaya, banana, etc) juice for breakfast . . . for $3 bucks! Tonight, my fiance's world famous homemade guacamole. :content:

Mine were okay, just a little dry. We made them with some kind of leaves in Mexico. Here all I could find was the corn husks. I think that was the big difference. I'll definitely have to try again sometime. I keep asking Javier what kind of food we are going to have at Christmas down there. He said they don't have any specific to fix at that time. But he did say, no tamales. I was awfully disappointed.

Do you have any idea what I may get to eat at Christmas down there? It sounds like the only thing I'm looking forward to is the food.

What part of mexico does his family live in?

My wife's family has turkey dinner a lot of times. :help: If I am lucky, they will have pozole.

pozole is a stew with pork and hominy.

I am not at all familiar with that region's cuisine. Maybe someelse around here is.

Pedro mentioned Puebla earlier so maybe he has some kind of idea. He may be back around sometime. Thanks anyway. The pozole sounds good. I'll have to see if I can find a recipe for that and try it out on Javier.

yeah, Pedro is a native of mex, so he would have a much better perspective.

pozole... ummm that takes quite a time to prepare.

prep the hominy by soaking it in some brine.

wash it then cook. throw in a number of spices.

cook the pork meat aside. according to my wife, it is best if pig head is used along with pork butt, feet, etc..

she made some for party we had a couple ofweeks ago. boy, what a show.

I love hot frothy Mexican chocolate. Javier just mentioned it the other day when we went grocery shopping. It's so much better than our hot chocolate. We also had arroz con leche and some other stuff kinda like it that's made from peanuts. I can't remember what it was called. And tamales, we had tamales coming out our ears. Everytime we went to Javier's abuelita's house she wanted to feed us tamales, even for breakfast.

Have you tried Mole' sauce? I believe it has unsweetened chocolate in it... as in chicken mole'. Good stuff!

Are you serious? You won't eat mole? Chicken with mole? Enchiladas with mole? Anything with mole? It's delicious! Plus, it would be pretty rude to turn it down . . . maybe you should just give it a try since it's amazing. Pozole is delicious too and I don't eat the meat - just around it! That's what we had on New Year's Eve last year.

I have tried it, twice. I can't stand it. I love chocolate but I don't like mole. I'm not really sure what it is about it that I can't stand. Javier's brother doesn't like it either. So, I guess since he's grown up eating it, it's okay that I don't like it. :D
