Hi. I am a Filipino and my husband was a US citizen by naturalization. We were married in civil here in US and would like to get married again in the Philippines, this time at the church. If by any chance, people around here had the same situation who could help us get through the procedures. I would really appreciate your time and effort.

By the way, we already reported our marriage at Phil consulate and received a copy of our ROM papers.

Thanks a lot!

You are married in the eyes of the Philippines and USA governments. The only thing you can do now is have a ceremony with the priest blessing your union and then let's PARTY!

You are already married, in the Philippines and the rest of the world. All you can do is renewal of vows now, just a "show" for family. As for what the church wants, ask the church. ;)

I have a similar situation. We're both Philippine born US citizens married in the US civilly and wants to have a wedding ceremony in the Philippines. Do I need to apply for a Philippine marriage license and can a priest officiate the ceremony or does it have to be a judge if we are having it in one of those wedding venues?

Do we need to report it to NSO?

Since you are already married, then no need for any marriage license or certificate in the Phil. You can't marry twice but you can have a ceremony for friends and family and get a blessing if you so desire.

A priest can perform the ceremony but there is no paperwork to complete or submit to a Philippine entity.

You don't have to report it but the Phil Gov. requests that you do. It's up to you. Not registering with NSO then you forfeit the dual citizenship and married name in your Phil passport. Of course if you are traveling to the Phil you can always show your marriage certificate to immigration and avail yourself of the extend visa Balikbayan one-year visa-free stay:

Balikbayans – any overseas Filipino returning to the Philippines, including former Filipinos who have acquired foreign citizenship – can stay in the Philippines without a visa for a period of one year. The balikbayan visa-free stay privilege is extended to the balikbayan’s non-Filipino spouse and children, provided they enter the Philippines with the balikbayan.

Former Filipino Balikbayans traveling to the Philippines are advised to bring either their old Philippine passport or copy of Philippine birth certificate as proof of their former Philippine citizenship. Accompanying family members of the balikbayan can bring appropriate supporting documents:

• For the spouse: copy of marriage certificate

• For each child: copy of birth certificate

• For adopted children: copy of adoption papers Philippine Law (R.A. 9174) provides benefits to baikbayans:

• Tax-exempt maximum purchases in the amount of up to US$2,000.00 (US$1,000.00 as arriving Balikbayan and US$1,000.00 as arriving passenger), at Philippine Government–operated duty free shops

• Exemption from Travel Tax, provided that their stay in the Philippines is one year or less. If their stay in the Philippines exceeds one year, Travel tax will apply to them.

We did a "wedding" this past summer in the Phils.. it was strictly for the family and the memories.

Show who the marriage license? The place that did the venue only wanted to see PESOS.... lots, and lots of PESOS!!! The minister of the church didn't care either.
