Hello everyone

Its been a long time since i put up a post, i was first going to do a fiance visa but in january my fiance an i decided to get married in march which we did March 30, 2012 exactly 2 years from the date we started going out. I had to do a whope lot of paper work and trips to la capital to get my papers worked out to get married with him. The thing is that we got married and they said that they couldnt give me the Acta de matrimonio because i dont have any cedula and the one they are going to give me doesnt come untill after the election of may 14. But they did gave me a stamped and signed letter from the women who married us at the junta that certifies that she indeed married us and that is legit. My question is can i put this letter in the package as the acta de matrimonio or will i be getting an RFE cus i dont have the original one? Or is it best for me to wait untill may 22 which is the date when the acta will be issued to my husband. O also i need a lil help with the sworn affidavit i have to idea where to start with that and is one of the two things im missing to complete the package. Sorry for all the words i really hope someone could help me with this. Have a Happy Easter Everyone!!!

I still dont understand why they can't give you the actual marriage certificate.... I'm lost here. I'm an American citizen and I donmt habe a cedula and our MC was ready less than a week after we got married without any issues. I doubt uscis will take anything other than a ACTUAL copy of your official MC. Remember they only nee copies but it will need to be of the MC not a random signed paper.

Maybe I am wrong and other member have submitted something other than the actual MC before but I doubt it. I'm still trying to understand why they are making you wait 2 months to give you your MC. Where did you get married?

Well the thing is that im dominican, and i had to get a cedula to get married but the cedula doesnt comes untill may 22nd which is when they can put my numero de cedula on my acta. When i got my cedula papers ready so my husband and i could get married it was 3 days before the day of the wedding so it doesnt have a number just a code which cant go in the acta they need the hard copy of tue cedula. They did not give me the actual cedula because of the elections and they are too busy on that to print it out. But this paper says everything that the acta would say and is stamped and signed by the lady who married us it was given to us right after we finished signing the books and she presented us as husband and wife. Btw i had never ever had a cedula and i was born and race in DR thats why i had to get one or at least paper stating i applied for one to get married.

I got married in San Francisco de Macoris and they wouldnt let me get married unless i had the papers that said i applied for the cedula, and the paper said my cedula would be ready for pick up may 22 and in the junta they told me they cant give me the acta untill the cedula comes which has the cedula # that has to be put in the acta.

Where are you currently residing? Do you have an American passport at all? Are you a US citizen or resident?? Just trying to make sense out of this.

There are members here who are Dominican by birth, but are USA citizens and used their American passport and BC to get married and it was more than enough. I don't see why you need a cedula unless you currently reside in D.R. I really hope the people in San Francisco de Macoris knew what they were doing...

If you really can't get your MC till late MAY then I would play it safe and wait for the official MC. After all, that is what the petition requires and that is what you should send. Sending the signed letter can get you an RFE and further slow down your case than just waiting for the official MC at the end of May.

If you want, you can call uscis and inquire about this and see what they tell you. Still, I would wait for the official MC. And just a friendly reminder, it must be translated.

Yes i took my us passport and everything that showed that i was living here in the states but they said that because i was born there that i needed my birth certificate and my cedula to get married... Now that u tell me this i feel like they screwed me over real bad  i been trying so hard to get this paper work process started but something always seems to happen like is not meant to be. It just makes me so upset. But i guess having these 2 months wait for the MC it would give me time to save up pay bills and do another trip on may to go pick up the MC and spend some time with him. :(

Ahh Martha I'm sorry they weren't smart enough to do things correctly and they made you do this. :bonk:

You should have been able to be married with your BC and your American passport without any issues. In place of the cedula # on the MC they would have put your passport #.

I know you are highly frustrated, I don't blame you, but like I said better play it safe and wait for the official MC so you avoid RFE's which could cause great delay in your case.

We are all here for support, stay strong! I know you know a thing or two about that since I read you joined the navy. :star:

Good luck!

Hey! I agree with StephanieM, I didn't have to wait that long to get my marriage cert. To be honest I got it 3day later we want and picked it. If I'd was you I will wait to get the original cause the USCIS will give you a hard time and you don't want them to stop the process for submitting the wrong paper work. Hope this helped!
