Hi, I met my fiance thru CL last February 2011, and we've been in constant communication , chats, emails, skype since then. He first visited me last January this year for 12 days, then he went back again last March 28th and until now he's here in the PI. He'll be back in LA on the 18th and has plans of filing a K1 Visa. I'm wonderin' if there's a big chance we can get approved coz we've only met online last year.

Most everyone met their fiance(e) online now a days, no big thing, more like the norm in reality.

Follow the guides here on VJ when completing the application and all will go good.

thanks for the quick reply, i guess we were confused because of the rule that we read in the requirements for k-1 visa where we should have met within the last 2 years coz he keeps on telling me that we should file after the 2 YEAR rule, is he correct? Coz as far as I understand the "must have met within the last 2 years" we surely meet that requirement already, right?

You have to have met in person within two years of filing the petition, not file after the two year period is up. So, since his last visit is March 28 - April 17, then he would have until April 16, 2014 to file the petition. (Not that I would suggest waiting until April 16, 2014 to file, but this gives you an idea of how the requirement plays out.)

Part One: The K-1 Visa Journey:

USCIS Receipt of I-129F: January 24, 2012 | Petition Approval: June 15, 2012 (No RFEs)
Interview: October 24, 2012 - Review | Visa Delivered: October 31, 2012

Part Two: Entry and Adjusting Status:

POE: November 18, 2012 (at SFO) - Review
Wedding: December 1, 2012 | Social Security: New cards received on December 7, 2012.
AOS Package (I-485/I-765/I-131) NOA1: February 19, 2013 | Biometrics Appt.: March 18, 2013
AP/EAD Approved: April 29, 2013 | Card Received: May 6, 2013 | AOS Interview Appt.: May 16, 2013 - Approved Review Card Received: May 24, 2013

Part Three: Removal of Conditions:

Tell your bf to listen to you - you had the correct understanding of the 2 year requirement. :D

Ain't that the truth.....

 Yeap - but it sure is quite humbling when your woman knows a thing-or-two.

Everyone here is correct.... You could actually meet today and send in your Fiancee visa today...

It is quite common (for the people here) to start an online relationship long before you actually

meet in person and then file for the fiancee visa immediately after meeting.

Note: You must file for a fiancee visa BEFORE the two years (of meeting) passes. Once you exceed

the two years. You are no longer eligible.
