I'm somewhat of a newbie here, but as far as I know, if you are in the US legally, then going to school here should be no problem.

k-1 visa is invalidated when you cross over - and yer given an I-94 that should have expired in 90 days from issuance, that's the piece of paper governing what you can do, for how long.

many community colleges will not care, just show up and pay monies.

I note this does vary by state, so you need to do yer own research in yer own area.

As Darnell said the K-1 is a single entry visa. You have used it to enter.

A lot of community colleges don't care. 3/4 I looked at had the same fee regardless if I was an LPR, international student or whatever.

I think university may be different though.

It really depends what you want to study and where.

I would 1) work out what I want to study, 2) find out where it is available 3) find out what options there are and the residency requirements and speak to the admissions office.

Good luck and please let me know what happens, as I am in a similar boat to you, albeit 6+ months behind.

Thanks for the info and i will let you know what happens. Anyone else know anything?

community colleges are easy, universities are hard, in terms of 'eligible to enroll'

most universities follow their own 'state resident guidelines' for the amount of tuition one pays, generally after living in a state for a year you are deemed a resident and pay the lower resident rate.

when a university seems confused about yer status, you'll be fobbed over to the international student office, for a DSO to ascertain your exact status, then ascertain which 'level' of tuition you will be paying (resident or out of state or international)

I'm really interested to know of 'what happens' when you do yer own research (use a telephone and the yellow pages book, make inquiries) as you'll have to find out this stuff on yer own - it's pointedly focused on yer own locale. There is no 'general answer', as all depends on where you are.
