F1 on OPT, applying for EAD and change of status (married)

There is a question that asks "Have you ever applied for employment authorization in the US?"

Should I say yes or no? Because technically post-graduate OPT can work here and I have a card. But the number starts with EAC.

Help? Thanks!

I am in your boat too (F1 OPT) and I said yes. Not sure where you want to enter the card number beginning with EAC. For all practical purposes, it is your A # that is needed, if I am not mistaken. I am waiting to see what other more experienced members have to say on this.

Ok, so the answer is yes too. I asked soemone that works in immigration office about it. BUT, when I submitted it, I sent it through the school and have no idea what date or where they sent it. How can I check? Call the school? They are pretty much ignoring me because I'm not a current student anymore. Boo.

You must have received a letter from the USCIS just before they mailed you your OPT EAD. It is an important document with the instruction to save it for future use. Also, when your school sent in your OPT EAD, you must have received a Notice of Action letter. Both these documents will give you the filing date and which center it was processed at. All the best.

Good. Now that you have found your A#, fill it up in all the forms that you are sending in. There are many places where they ask for the A#. Also, you have to write your name and A# in pencil or felt pen on the back of all your passport pictures.

Thank you!

By the way, I'm looking at your timeline and I'm right behind you. Can we be buddies? We have the same case. Only difference is I'm only starting my papers now.. I'm guessing you got married recently too? My husband said this process doesn't take long and he hasn't even started on the papers he needs to file for me yet! I'm filling out a couple of forms to start..

Buddies all the way! I got married six years ago, and filed my application on Feb 23 since my husband got his naturalization recently. I am told the process takes about 4-6 months to complete at a conservative estimate. Hoping for the best.
