Hi VJers,

My finace' has children but they will not be following a this time. We listed them on the G-325a. He pays monthly support but their mom has custody and they currently reside in Haiti. Do we need their birth certificates at the interview? I read in an earlier thread that BC isn't needed if children won't follow. Is this true? Also how long is the police certificate good for in Dominican Republic?

Thanks. While filling in form DS-156K it states BC of all children listed in number five must be attached. So I will take it that they are needed. Better to have and not need than to need and not have. Just more things to be translated, ugh!

I was told any children that may be involved from either side need to have BC's presented or available at the interview so they can verify, if need be, the info on the kids. I brought my kids BC's and they are USC's. I would bring them just in case, despite what you're told, because it's better to be safe than sorry. It would suck to get put in AP just for neglecting to bring some simple documents with you. Have everything you need and more prepared and ready to be reviewed.

I agree that if you have them it is better to bring them but if it's an issue to obtain them and the kids won't be coming with, you don't need to have them. This may be consulate specific but we did not bring my stepchildren's bc's to my husband's k1 interview as they weren't coming with us at that time and it wasn't an issue.
