The death anniversary of my wife's grandma along with Khmer New Year approaches and my wife sends money to her parents every year. I was informed I have to send 1000 dollars for the party and 3 days of New Years celebration. I'm not complaining but this is the same village I could get a shave and haircut or a bowl of Pho for about 50 cents American less than 2 years ago. Is inflation starting to hit Vietnam as it is here?

It seems that prices are going up everywhere. Just a question, if your wife wasn't living in America how would they go about celebrating these activities? Are they taking advantage of you and your wife for things that are not necessities of life? I could understand sending money for medical expenses or other NECESSARY things.

They would celebrate just like any other year. It's there culture to take care of there parents. The only one that ever asked us for money was her eldest brother he is very poor and we paid for his son's wedding. I know the big cities in Vietnam are more expensive, wife is far south and everything at least to me was so cheap.

O.K. Many take the stance that they would do whatever it takes to have peace in their home with their wife as long as they can afford it.
