Interesting topic, it is especially delicate when the woman is USC and the man comes from a traditional husband=provider culture.

I paid for everything, except in-Honduras expenses (medical, police cert, etc) which were minor in comparison. I sent him some money-making opportunities, which enabled him to pay for most of my flights (which paid for about 3). Him working a job would have made an absurdly small amount of money so we decided for him to go to school and be with his family for awhile.

Last trip to Honduras (for the interview), my mom went along and paid for a couple nights in hotels which made my husband uncomfortable but there was no way he could have paid. (anyways he is more than making it up to her now :)

My husband JUST received his SSN and hasn't been able to take a formal job yet (arrived 2/4). However he has been doing odd jobs in the neighborhood and for my family more than enough to earn his food and living expenses. My grandparents gave him some money for Christmas which he used to buy his own cell phone but I have been paying the bill. Otherwise, he would have just gotten a super cheap phone. I took him to get his haircut, and when he found out it cost $17 he said he would just wait, he didn't want me to spend my money. I told him the haircut was more for my enjoyment than for his :)

Anyways, we talked a lot about expenses throughout the whole process and we came to a conclusion. I told him I would more than gladly pay for everything up front, but he would need to pay US back. By the end of the year (hopefully), have him pay back an amount equal to immigration expenses to a savings account that we can save for when we want to buy a house or something for us.

He is paying for them, but that's because he has more money at the moment.

IMO you should just stop counting who pays for what. You're married now, it doesn't matter at all. Whoever has money available can use it for immigration related expenses. It all comes from the same pot, tracking everything is just going to cause argument.

As for having him pay the fees at NVC stage, well, you can only pay using a US based bank account so I don't see how he could make the payment.

There's no "favor" to be done and returned, your expense are made for a common goal!

I agree with some of what you say? Was her marriage arranged by his family the beneficiary? If so, then he should pay. Now if she met him and she wanted a husband then she should pay hands down. She has another thread from the sounds of it this relationship its gloomy. Honey you need rethink it. Best wishes.

Wow ,pay you back for Visa expense, that means my wife owes me 20,000 plus for all the expenses I occurred related to the process. My wife makes great money now but whatever she decides to put in our saving is fine with me. I'm not keeping tabs on it.
