Hi everybody.

I'm in the process of applying for a K1 visa, I'm the one living in the UK but now that I've got to schedule a medical appointment, things are getting a little bit more difficult. I don't have a paying job (my work is voluntary), I'm currently enrolled in a course at the local college, and they want nearly £200 for the costs of my medical examination (plus extras for any vaccinations I might require).

I can't afford to pay that much right now. I'm not sure if I can get the money from my fiance, but with me having to go down to London for the interview as well (which will probably cost another £200+ for transport and accommodation) I'd like to try and delay the medical and the interview until I'm in a better situation financially. Preferably until the end of summer (about July/August), during which I can hopefully find a temporary job.

So, I'm just wondering, is this allowed? What, if anything, is the time limit between receiving the letter telling me to book a medical (and submit form DS 2001) and actually booking? Will they warn me if I'm running out of time? Will it affect my eligibility for a visa? My fiancee petition has already expired due to delays, so they already want me to provide another notarised letter of intent.

If anyone could help, it would be appreciated. I'm scared to contact the embassy directly in case they hold my intentions against me.

Please fill in the timeline it will allow better to understand the situation.

Several things to consider while you can delay, note that your NOA2 (which is an approval for the fiancee visa) expires 4 months after the approval date. If you are trying to delay it that late, you will need to contact embassy to try to extend it. It is up to the CO discretion to do it. If you are planning to move to US, why would you worry about finding a job now, just try to ask your fiancee to help you. It doesn't seems like a lot of money, comparing what you will have to spend during AOS, and plane tickets.

I would recommend avoiding delays if possible. They will not hold it against you, but you will be asked about that.

Agree with Oksana & Max, have you asked your fiancé for the money?

I can't remember most of the information to fill in the timeline. I don't know the specific dates that things were sent or received. I've filed everything necessary, I just need to undergo a medical and let them schedule an interview.

I haven't asked him for the money yet, he's on vacation with his mother and father, helping them with their other house in Mexico.

Also, the sources I read said that I have six months to "get my affairs in order" after I actually receive the visa.

Here's the fees. Transportation to London (twice) and the US is extra. So far the first listed has been paid. Maybe you'll need to start over when you and the fiance are better prepared.

$340 (USCIS) I-129F

£35 ACPO Police certificate

£210 (Knightsbridge Doctors) medical exam

$350 (Embassy) Visa fee

£14.50 (DX Secure) Courier fee

$1070 (USCIS) Adjustment of Status/Work Authorization/Advance Parole

Your petition has expired so the only possible way to further extend is write the embassy a letter and request an extension and give them a reason. Once you have a visa in hand, then you have 6 months to use it.
