Hello

Came to this forum because of the great expert advice I saw on most threads and the friendly atmosphere. I have a quick question, I have a girlfriend who lives in Vienna, Austria and I recently went to visit her for two weeks. I'm a Trinidadian citizen. With this long distant relationship we try to see each other as often as possible so now for summer we plan to go to the US to spend a couple weeks. But heres my dilema, when I was 19 my mom got married to a US citizen and left the country (My stepdad and I never got along), since then we haven't had any contact. Now that I want to apply for my tourist visa what should I put as my moms status in the US ? Should I put "I don't know" and will this have any effect on my chances of a US visa ?

Thanks much

Have a 2 questions: how long ago did your mother get married and what area on the B2 application form do they ask about your mother's status?

I might be mistaken but on the DS-160 form when they ask "is your mother in the US" dont they ask status as well ? She was married almost 10 years ago when I was 19.

You may be concentrating on the wrong aspect of getting a tourist visa. You must prove beyond a doubt that you will return to your country or you will never be issued a tourist visa. This is the " strongest ties" rule. Study that rule and find a way to comply totaly or save your time & money. All people with any type of visa are considered intending immigrants. You must offset that idea with concrete proof that you are not going to do that.

Presumably you had a Tourist Visa when you visited before?

Yes your right I should concentrate on myself as Im the one needing the visa, just was wondering with my mother there if it would have an effect but I guess I need to prove for myself. Thanks Ning

Yes Ning I had a tourist visa before although this was when I was much younger (5 or 6) then I got another one approved when I was 16.

Your USC mother has no bearing on whether or not you get a B2 especially so at almost 30. Getting a tourist visit is going to be all on your own merit. It's your ability to convince the CO you will return to your native country (with ties/no ties), that will determine that if your successful at getting that visa.

Best bet though is applying with strong ties (career/business, property ownership, other necessary responsibilities) but if you don't have these still give it a try.

If those visas were awarded multiple entries then why oh why did you allow them to expire and not be renewed? If that was the case then you would be an almost shoe in for a 'new visa' (as long as the B2 wasn't abused).

Hey Aaydrain,

Thanks for replying and your helpful advice. I can say truthfully that that visa was never abused.
