Question for VJ-ers from India: to expand or not expand initials?

This question is specifically for posters from India, especially from South India but answers are also welcome from anyone else who has had a similar issue.

While giving names of parents in Form G 325A,is it essential to expand initials or just give the initials as your parents use(d) them in their names?

For example, if your father's has always spelt his name as A.K. Raghavan and your mother as R.Lalitha (since in the south of India your mother will take your father's first name as the initials for her married name) do you have to provide expansion of initials like Ananthapur Krishna Raghavan and Raghavan Lalitha when filling Form 325-A?

The surname/first name system in the south of India is different than that of the US or even in the north of India and I have been reading in some posts that Immigration always requires full expansion of names and not initials.

Any clarifications?

I would use full names rather than initials because it may be confusing later on... But make sure if you use full names, always use full names in the whole immigration process same as vice versa... I would also go by the passport names.. If passport has full names than go by that because you might have to submit copies of the passport..

I think it is better safe than sorry so you should write out the full names. It eliminates any confusion during the investigative phase as to who exactly your husband is. Just as an example, I'm in North India and there are 3 people within a 1 block radius with the same name as my husband. His dad has the same first initial as one of the other's father as well. Should an investigator come through here verifying our affidavits we would absolutely want to be certain they got the right Rohit. (In North India they attach their father's name to everything they do so it's important that only his information be found and not someone else who could ruin things for us or confuse an already skeptical immigration official.)
