What to do: Beneficiary needs treatment?

Hi,

I'm US citizen sponsoring for my wife in Vietnam. My case is still in "AP - Additional Processing"

since last September. Many contacts with the Consulate came back with "your case is still pending....".

Recently my wife was diagnosed with "elevated level of white blood cell counts" where doctor said

she could have leukemia or liver problem if not treated. She has been under expensive treatment for more than 3 months

without much improvement due to available medicine and treatment in Vietnam.

I'm thinking about having her under treatment in the USA if possible, i.e. asking the Consulate to consider her case

and give her the visa.

1) should I do that? (pros: she could have visa approved and go to USA for treatment,

cons: the Consulate may delay her case further due to her illness

condition which may involve liver problem, etc...)

2) if I should do that, what the proper way to do it?

Please advise. Thanks

I could be wrong but the diseases you talk of are not contagious thus wouldn't delay your Visa. Fellow Vjer's correct me if i'm wrong. Treat her over here.

It's not that you're wrong. She would not be medically unqualified to receive a visa due to this illness, but it can weigh on the public charge concerns. If she's already on the husband's health insurance or can be upon arrival, then that isn't an issue. What to do at this point depends on the reason for the AP and how confident the couple is that the visa would eventually be issued anyway. We don't know the totality of the circumstances being considered at the Consulate.
