Timeline

ok so my tax preparer said that i should file Married Filing Joint

and that i need an ITIN number for my spouse since she is a non resident alien

he said that he only needs to complete a w-7 form and that i need an ORIGINAL copy

of her birth certificate and an ID card (the card not a copy) and that am all set.

he also said i could not file Married Filing Separately and put NRA in place of a SSN number

does this seem right to you guys? i just wanna get this over with

first file tax amenend extension it's for 6 months, WWW.IRS.GOV have your wife down load the w-7 form full it out sign it and send it to you in the us along with a copy of your spouse bio page of passport. . you complete it .you need a copy of your us passport,a copy of your marriage certificate.read the instructions on the w-7 ,if all must be mail the the adderss in austin tx only,if you need more assistance the number in austin tx w-7 dept 1-800-908-9982.and when they send you the itin number for your spouse to file your tax returns.you must send all to austin tex only. no other place.

I called the IRS office in Beijing about this a week or two ago as I didn't want to go through the hassle of filing for an ITIN. The Rep I spoke to said to choose "married filing separately" and write "Foreign Spouse" where you would usually write the name, then to leave the SSN spot blank. If you file this way though you don't get a deduction for your spouse.

Sept 9, 2011: NOA1

March 16, 2012: NOA2

April 10, 2012: NVC Case Number Assigned, AOS Invoice Received

April 11, 2012: OPTIN for EP with DS-3032 sent, AOS bill paid

April 12, 2012: AOS Package Sent

April 17, 2012: IV Bill invoiced, paid

April 19, 2012: IV package sent

April 20, 2012: Checklist for AOS asking for letter of employment, response sent

April 23, 2012: Letter approving DS-230, False checklist for AOS checklist

May 1, 2012: Appointment Letter Received (for May 23rd)

May 22, 2012: Interview canceled pending further medical tests

July 15, 2012: New Appointment letter Received

August 1, 2012: Interview, Approved
