Hi Diana,

I would like to ask for your advice. I took the precaution of gathering all my wife's supporting documentation that go with the DS-230 right after we got married in Colombia and brought everything with me back to the States (January of this year).

Now that the time for submitting all these documents is rapidly approaching, I am undecided about whether to send all the ORIGINALS to NVC, or to go to the nearest UPS Store, make copies and have them "CERTIFIED AS TRUE COPIES" and send those to NVC instead.

I am afraid of NVC REJECTING my entire IV Packet because I did not send them the ORIGINAL documents. I do plan, though, as a precautionary measure and once I'm all done Stateside, to send my wife and ACCORDION Folder that I built for her and that has ABSOLUTELY every single document, we have submitted from Day 1 so that she can have it for INTERVIEW DAY.

What is your recommendation? Should I send the ORIGINALS? or Copies Stamped as "CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES"?

It's best to send what you currently have, especially since most of those documents, besides the police certificate, are probably already certified copies that you got in Colombia since they never hand out the original paperwork.

Diana

How long has the wait been to receive the immigrant visa from Bogota to Medellin?

Anybody with previous wait time?

thanks

Delivery for any city outside of Bogota takes between 6-10 business days.

Hi i cant find a link to the 'pasado judicial' on the police website, i can only find the "antecedentes judicial"...... Can someone post a link?

The pasado judicial was only named that way when the DAS handled it, but since they no longer exist, it is now processed by the Colombia National Police and they call it antecedentes judiciales. So in essence, it's the same document.

Colombianas!

Colombianos!!

Gringooooos!!!

Ustedes con novias/novios de Colombia, y ellos viven en la Bogota!

HOW MANY DAYS... is the usual time from the day of the interview to the day of having the Visa en mano?

My fiance lives in Bogota.

So, if the interview for example takes place on Friday, then what day would she have the Visa in hand?

Can she go to the embassy to pick it up? Would that be faster than waiting for them to deliver it?

And,...perhaps you can help with this information, too: She can go immediately to the airport, once she has the visa in hand? si??

Or, is there something else she must do, sign, register, request, wait on,..... cualquier????

All help is appreciated.

I'm just trying to plan ahead.

It's looking bleak for me to be able to break away for both the interview and to wait some unknown amount of days or time for her to have the visa in hand.

I may go for the interview.

I may only go to escort her up to the States.

I may not go for any of this.

Although she has expressed concerns over problems in the immigration at the airport once she lands in Houston (likely port of entry).

I think she has unfounded fears based on rumor and hear-say. I think it's just also that she has NEVER

She's a mature, however young appearing, lady.

She's not got any of the issues that would prevent entry, which is why we go through all these dadgummed procedures and waiting anyway.

Much obliged with any help on any of this. thanks.

GringoD,

I'm replying through this thread so that we can keep it alive. It's much easier to have one thread as the main information center because otherwise we'll end up with a whole bunch of different threads and some of them will get lost in the bunch without any responses.

Anyway, in response to your question, if the visa is to be picked up or delivered in Bogotá, it'll take between 2-3 business days, so keep in mind any US or Colombian holidays that may fall in between. Anything outside of Bogotá will take 6-10 business days.

As soon as she has her visa in hand she can go straight to the airport and hop on a flight with a US destination, all she needs is her passport, visa and embassy envelope to be handed in to immigration at POE.

The visa in the passport....

Ok, I thought the visa was in the sealed envelope that will get opened at the POE, but sounds like that is not the case.

That's right, the visa is attached to the passport, the sealed envelope has all the info needed by immigration at POE to enter the immigrant's info in the system to be processed. Besides the passport (with visa) and boarding pass, my husband was asked for his cédula by the DAS which is right before boarding.

Also, don't bother taking the x-ray with you, you won't need it again.
