My prior experience several years ago with a K-1 seemingly has confused my thinking for the CR-1. With the K-1, the NVC did not need the DS-230. Instead, the embassy at the interview reviewed the police certificate, divorce certificate, etc. So we are now busy (can you say "panic") collecting the documents needed by NVC.

The NVC states: "You and each family member immigrating with you to the United States must submit to the NVC original documents issued by an appropriate authority, or certified copies of those documents listed in this section."

My question - What constitutes a certified copy? These are Russian documents. I assume they need not be apostiled.

a stamp/seal by the original issuing authority.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thank you Darnell.

After further reading I found at the State Dept official webpage for Immigrant Visa Application and Document Processing under the heading "Documents the Applicant Must Submit to the NVC"

"Evidence must be in the form of original documents issued by an official authority, or certified copies bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority..."

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html

I assume such will satisfy the NVC.

I see, so if we don't want to send originals, then we have to get Certified copies from the same Original place where we got the Original document.

I guess this can be for:

1) Birth Certificate

2) Marriage Certificate

Also, of course PCC or Police Clearance Certificate has to be original i think

Thank you Darnell.
