Hi,

My wife and I have our interview at the consulate in Rio on March 9. We are starting to worry about 2 things. I received notification from NVC back on January 30 that our petition was forwarded to Rio.

Here are the 2 things that concern me and I am looking to anyone with advice on this:

My wife has not received a packet 4 or any emails, nothing from the consulate. She already did her medical and has her sealed envelope, but apparently there is more than just the medical in packet 4.

Also, I have read several places, including on here maybe, that the original documents must be taken to the consulate on the day of the interview. The problem with that is that I sent all of the original translated documents, my wife's birth certificate, divorce decree, police reports, and our marriage certificate, everything to the NVC who forwarded them to the consulate. Does this mean that I have to go back now and obtain new original copies of all of this just to take to the interview when they already have them? That sounds crazy, but I am worried that it is true. It is only 23 days until our interview.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with these questions.

since there was an intake at NVC, expect all of that stuff to show up at the Embassy IV unit - they'll have it in the casefile prior to interview day.

Packet 4 is hard to define for any Embassy IV unit - contents and need for vary, based on DCF vs NVC intake, and if there's an appointment letter in hand already from NVC.

So, I'd say disregard anything about packet 4, since she already has an interview appointment letter.

(I know you not mention the interview appointment letter - I assume she has one since you know the appointment date, and she had her medical done)

In General Terms, though - if there was intake at NVC, then there is no packet 4 from the IV Unit at any US Embassy.

Hi Darnell,

Thanks for the reply. The interview letter we have, with the interview date, was received from NVC. The letter just states that an interview has been scheduled at the consulate in Rio on March, 9 at 7:15am, and that our case has been forwarded to the consulate. We have received nothing from the consulate at all.

My wife went ahead and did the medical, she just showed them the letter from NVC with her case number. We didn't want to wait because it is now only 23 days until we have to be in Rio for the interview. This entire process is so confusing at times...

Hey Journeyer,

Congrats on your interview and I wish you the best and hope you are well prepared.

Can you be kind enough to write a review and give us fellow Brazilian forum members the details of your experience at the interview?

We in the Brazil forum have not had any Consulate reviews for CR-1 Visas in our portal in a long time.

I also am a US citizen married to a Brasilera and we are very curious to know of the recent details about the experience there in the Consulate in Rio.

I plan on attending with my wife as well, so I bid you the best and pray for your wife to obtain the visa that will bring you 2 together.

Hi Rodrique,

Yes, when we have our interview over with, I will write a review here. I just now got around to updating my timeline.

There are reviews listed here for Rio consulate, although there hasn't been one since December where anyone actually wrote anything. I am not sure what all the blank reviews with no rating or anything are all about?

Do you have your interview date yet?

Boa sorte para vocês tb

Well, it looks like the answer to my question is that NVC had all of the documents but have sent them to Rio, and the only other thing I need to take is that sealed medical envelope that my wife already has. I don't know if there is any way to track whether the petition ever arrived at the consulate or not, especially if they will not send out a packet 4 to my wife.

This process can be very confusing...

Yes- my wife and I have our interview March 14th in Rio. The instructions from the State Department website say to mail the original documents to the NVC in the US for the I-864 and DS-230 packages. BUT- then the Rio Consulate says to bring Originals of the same documents to the interview. Very Confusing/Contradictory. At least the State Dept website says that they will forward on the original documents to the Consulate before our interview date. I have photocopied backups of everything, so I hope that is enough!

Our interview in Rio was on Feb 5th, and she got the visa today, so, about 13 days, but remember, with Carnaval in between ;-)

Good luck

Hi everyone!

Could you please tell me how long it took for you to get your visa in the mail?

Thank you!

They have ALL the documents you have submmited there, and they gave ours back at the end of the interview.

BUT, just in case, I took a copy of everything I had sent them up to that point, but nothing was requested besides whatever was on the letter stating the interview date, such as pictures, medical report.

So, as long as you bring whatever they are asking to bring on that letter, you should be all set ;-)

We just had our interview on Feb 5th, and I have posted on my timeline.

I was there with my wife, but, it is not really needed. Everyone seem to be getting their visa with no issues.

In any case, I spent the weekend in Rio with her, which was nice ;-)

We did not get anything either, just the letter for the interview on Feb 5th, and what we had to take, medical report, all everything else they had. There is a list of all the documents they need , and whether they have it already.

I took my complete application with me, but nothing was asked, since they had everything there, and at the end of the interview, they gave us all of it back.

Read my interview review so you can have more details of how it went for us ;-)

Good luck
