Sadly I got my drivers license in Philippines before I got it in the United States and I was born american. I am from NC, they started the whole weird 6 month probation with our license so that was the time i went to pinas.

I learn how to drive defense and offensive in pinas and learned how to drive very very fast on the Autobahn in Germany.

In the Philippines, it's defense and offense all at the same time. Especially in Manila.

Driving is dangerous. You and someone else can die. You can go to jail by texting or careless behavior and killing someone. Accidents will send your insurance rates way up. Driving is no laughing matter.

#1. Stay in the right hand land. Don't drive in the left hand lane and go the speed limit because this will cause road rage and accidents. This is in the hand book. The left lane is for faster traffic. Do yourself and everybody else a favor.

#2. Drive defensively. Anticipate that when you go through a red light or pass stop signs that the other driver will not stop and slow down on approaching intersections until you get accustomed to driving and have seen enough wrecks.

#3. Rain is the number one cause of auto accidents because it makes the road slippery especially when it hasn't rained in a while. You hit the brakes and keep sliding right on through the intersection. Slow down, slow down in rain before an intersection. This is where the accidents occur.

#4. At night, when someone comes at you with their high beams on, do not look into the high beams because it will blind you. Instead, look to the right of your roadway and follow the white line on the road until you pass them.

Do not hand your fiancee the keys without having her touch the brakes and the gas in the car for five minutes with her feet. She needs to know where the brakes are and not the gas !

hmmm... well I already drive in the PI (manual) before I got here, so when I did - I went ahead to our drivers bureau ofc, got and read that 'rules of the road book', paid close attention to everything on it like reading a favorite novel although not exactly - I mean, I know it's a serious thing. also did a lot of observing when I'm with my husband driving. The gas and the brake on the automatic trans. didn't seem rocket science at all. After about 5 months of living here, we finally managed to get me a car, so I got myself a permit and practiced for two days around our neighborhood and nearby roads then took the driving test on the third day and passed.

The best thing about here is every rule (and I mean every single bit) has to be followed - the lights, the signs (specially), the lines, giving way to the emergency vehicles (totally the exact opposite in the PI! Pffft!) - everything! I LOVE IT! .... or else! and the last thing you wanna get is a ticket from an officer that you know you can NEVER bribe! (that's one thing I don't miss about the Philippines, it's no laughing matter and it's something we're not really proud of)

Basically, everything you need to know is on that handy rules of the road book. Take it by heart and you'll learn to drive like a breeze. :)

You give your Pinay wife the keys, to the car? We are still waiting for the first wife in our circle of Fil-Am couples to get her license. I haven't replaced the car the wife wrecked last August yet.

Most american drivers are still the worst.

Does your wife drive yet?

The guy in the video seems a bit over dramatic, just adding stress to her. He should have taken her to a more open place to drive first and let her get really used to that and slowly move up to more high traffic areas.

If the person in the passenger side is in not saying anything at all or just letting her go as is. It might worry the driver as well because she doesn't know if she is doing good or bad.

So it is kind of a thin line on how much you worry, let her know she is doing good or bad, or yell at her to STOPPP! :)

Mine passed her driving permit. She studied the booklet very well and learned the rules/signs extremely well.

I did not hire a driver instructor to teach her how to drive. I am teaching her and it is going very well. I am doing that for two reasons.

1) I consider myself a very careful driver and I want her to inherit that part of me. 2) There is some kind of stress when teaching some one how to drive.

I think dealing in a situation when both parties are a bit stress can be beneficial when trying to get to know some one. I will not deny it, we have met some small bumps in the process of teaching her. But the conversion of those bumps into fun is something I can't explain.

Soon she will be ready to take her driving test.

I give a quote:

"The art of converting stress to fun can be the most beautiful feeling a couple can ever feel." (L)
