Hi, we just received our NOA1 notice last week and are very optimistic that things will go smoothly with our visa application. Being newly weds, not being able to be with each other is difficult and we'd want to spend as much time together as possible while our application is being processed. Since I don't have a lot of leave time at work, I'm planning on resigning from my job and spending a month with my wife in the Philippines. After which, I'll return to the US and start looking for work. Hopefully I can get a job before I need to submit the AOS but if I can't, would it greatly affect our application? I could have my mom and dad co-sponsor us but I'd rather not go that route. I do have significant savings in the bank, own my house and a couple of vehicles. Will that be enough to prove my capacity to support my wife once she gets here? What exactly do they need me to submit for the AOS? Do they need proof of current employment? Thanks in advance :)

Hey, Yes it will effect your AOS application. check out the guid for applying for the I-130 as well as the AOS process http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2

If you look at that you will see it does require an affidavit of support, which means you need to have a job that can be verified as well as an income that is at least 125% above poverty for 2 people. If you don't not have a job you are going to have to have a co-sponsor because you have to be able to prove that you can support her and she will not need government assistance of any kind

Understand your emotions for sure this separation sucks, but don't let them screw the pooch along the way. You will need your job for the visa approval also unless you plan to have a co-sponsor. Hang tough.
