Today, we received an RFE. Our imaginations were running away with us. Of all the things that they want, or could ask for, they want to see evidence that our sponsor is a citizen of the United States. We are going to send then a notorized copy of the sponsor's birth certificate, right away. Things are looking up.

But truly, who would have known? It must have skipped past us when we put our packet together.

Driver's license isn't enough as a stand-alone. I think(if remembering correctly) you'd need either passport or birth cert. as proof. It doesn't need to be notarized. It's an easy fix for you though, and hopefully a fast approval after USCIS receives your response. Good luck :)

It is posted here on VJ a lot in topics dealing with joint sponsors, and it is in the I-864 instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

"19. Citizenship/Residency.

Proof of U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident status is required for joint and substitute sponsors and for relatives of employment-based immigrants who file this form. Petitioning relatives who have already filed proof of their citizenship or immigration status with Forms I-130, Form I-129F, I-600 and I-600A do not need to submit proof of their status with this form.

Proof of U.S. citizen or national status includes a copy of your birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship, consular report of birth abroad to citizen parents, or a copy of the biographic data page of your U.S. passport."
