You can travel just as you could when leaving your home country. You need any visas that are required as you will be using your home country passport to gain entry to the places visited. The GC is for returning to the US. As a GC holder you do not need a re-entry permit or visa IF you follow the rules about maintaining your PR status. Typically trips of less than 6 months in a one year period have no difficulties. Between 6 months and 12 months, no forms need to be filed but you may be looked at more closely and the USCIS website does say that stays of less than 12 months can be used to deny re-entry based on abandament of LPR status. Stays of over 12 months but less than 2 years requires a re-entry permit be filed and approved BEFORE leaving the US. Should you want to stay beyond 2 years, expect to jump thru several hoops in order to return.

Have fun,

Dave
