They are real. But just electroplated with very little gold and silver.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Senate Floor Speech on Public Debt

Damn it i dont want to hear that.

Did you expect $20 to buy you a real solid gold coin when gold is selling for over $1700/ounce?

With gold at $1700/ounce, $20 will get you about 1/100 of an ounce. 1/100 of an ounce is just enough to plate several iron coins.

-----

A magnet will not still to solid gold. A magnet will usually stick to a gold plated coin.

All of the commercials and printed advertisements for these "collectible" coins disclose that they are plated and reproductions versus authentic minted currency coins.

So yes they are "real" but no they are not minted currency, solid precious metal or valuable in any way.
